The Taoist Master
A Taoist Master was walking in a forest outside Peking. Suddenly, near a lake, he saw a white crane attack a poisonous black snake. The snake, rolling in the mud, used a static, hypnotic power with tense, lightning-fast movements of attack and retreat. The crane was peacefully flying in the air, waiting for the right moment to strike. The Taoist Master, by observing the fighting strategies of both animals, conceived the initial movements of martial arts.
